Well now in color for 6 hours tonight we had my favorite Howard the Comedian.You know too well how much i cherish this episode so ill just add did you see me as Evan Thorpe wobbling off the stage behind my idol, the late Col.Tim..Howard could never remember the Cols name.Bless him. Big Brother, Opies Most Unforgettable Character Opies First Love were there howard the Bowler were here and good for many laughs but folks i save the best for last. Yes Allan in tribute to you we have Goobers Contest, Floyds final appearece on TAGS. I aint adding anything new here you fans dont already know. poor Howard McNear at the end of his acting career, tho his speech terribly slurred by now, still holds down the fort. such memorable lines for his last acting chore."I charge fraud" the barber shoppe scenes highlight dramatic effective ever so closeup shots of Howards face like never ever before. Floyd at the gas station, double & all, the pained look on Andy Griffith's out of character look (I bet you its because of Howards saddened condition,his slurred speech & the fact it was his last bow here) the classic ending of Goober in jail ad floyd listoning to that harmonica is a classic bit. "Nice music Goober." leads me to my favorite very favorite ever Howard McNear line (and the camera wisely highlights full screen his face) " I already ordered my shampooer with a foam free rinse." BRILLIANT Allan. that line sums up his character, i cherish that line. look at his face, a comedians perfect timing his glassy look in his eyes, forget the slurred speech and yes its sad we know this was his exit as Floyd Lawson but lets dwell at the dozen memorable lines summing up the character of Floyd the barber.That one line with the foam free rinse,yep thats Floyd Lawson thats Howard McNear at his very best. even illness cant dampen an actors brilliant performance.Thanks Howard thanks Allan thanks everyone. a night here well spent.
