Hey, Mayberry friends. Reading Dewey Lamb's and everyone else's memories makes me smile and get a little misty eyed (I'll fight it!) 'cause I've seen it, done it and experienced almost every one at some point when I was young. Growing up in rural NC in the '50s and '60s, many of these things were commonplace, little did I know at the time that I would be looking back and remembering with such affection.
One more thing: My mom was a wonderful, loving mother and Christian lady, but if I done something wrong and made her mad then look out! When I deserved a whipping she'd make me go outside and retrieve my own 'switch', and if it wasn't big enough or long enough then I'd have to go get another that satisfied her. Now imagine a child trying to pick a 'switch' that would satisfy mom but wouldn't hurt as much, such a dilemma. I know Opie came close to getting a 'whippin' a time or two (The Keeper of the Flame) but I don't think he had to get his own 'switch'. Larry in Lincolnton Keep the memories coming, I love 'em. _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
