Speaking of monks, it gives me another theory about Mr. Schwamp. Perhaps he is a former monk and he is still bound by his vow of silence. Also the wig could be worn to cover his tonsure. And the way his name is pronounced "Schwump" it sounds a bit like monk. There probably are a few sisters in his family too. I may be on to something here.
