Martha and I live in the town where I grew up starting in 1950. Martha did
not grow up here, but mostly in another state. Saturday when we were out
shopping, I found myself telling her how the town had changed since the 60's.
Like most small/medium towns around here, the downtown has changed for the
worse. But it got me to thinking, if Mayberry was around in 2012, how do you
think the downtown would have changed? Of course, Weavers and Foleys would
be out of business, closed by the big box store out on the main highway. The
courthouse and post office would still be downtown, but not much else. Of
course the movie house would be long closed. There would only be one or two
eating establishments downtown. What changes do you think Mayberry would have
gone through by 2012?\Orville Hendricks - Mount Pilot Butter and Egg Man.
When I was a boy walking downtown with my parents in the late 50's, you had to
walk in the streets because there were so many people on the sidewalk. Now
downtown is deserted most days.
