I checked with various folks in Mayberry to find out how they planned to bring in the new year. This is what I learned folks are going to do.
Skippy and Daphne are going to a beer joint in Yancy after they watch a George Raff movie. Andy, Helen, Barney, and Thelma Lou are going out to Morelli's and then they will stop down at the duck pond. Fred Boone is having a bunch of the guys over to play hearts. ( No water pitchers will be available ) Annabelle and Clarabelle Morrison are hosting a party for Otis and his friends and she will be serving their special elixir for special occasions. Aunt Bee and Clara Edwards are spending a quiet night together watching Colonel Tim's Talent Show. They will toast the new year with a glass of pickle juice. The Darlings will be celebrating by running through the creek, serving up some good old hoot owl pie, and then playing their great bluegrass music. Howard Sprague and his mother are going out for a Chinese dinner and then will go home to play dominoes. ( Absolutely no card playing ) Goober and Gomer are going on a double date with Lydia Crosswaite and her mother to a bingo party at Mt. Pilot. Mr. Schwamp and Floyd are going stag to a dance at the Old People's Home. Ernest T has his bestest rocks all packed up and he is going to break all the windows on Main Street at midnight. Even Opie has plans.
