We had such fun at a Burger King Car Show at Menomonie, Wi last night. So
many fun people there. One of my former 3rd grade students came up to me
and wanted her picture taken with me handcuffing her. A couple came up to
me and asked me to give a ticket to a guy who was walking around with his
family. He was a visitor from Switzerland. So I went up to him and talked
to him. When he spoke in his accent I told him I thought that he wasn't
from around here and that maybe he was from someplace else like maybe
Switzerland. The look on his face was priceless. I ended up giving him a
ticket for loitering because he wasn't working while in the states and I
gave his daughter a citation for having non-American tattoos. A young boy
of about ten years old latched on to me. I gave him a tour of the squad
car and taught him to activate the lights and siren using just one finger.
There was a hula hoop contest for kids but he said he was afraid to try.
So I told him if he would try I would go out and try with him. Have you
any idea how difficult it is for a 67 year old man who is wearing a police
uniform complete with gun belt to do the hula hoop? But we got a round of
applause and he won himself an ice cream cone. The night ended when I took
our tribute artists Lucy Ricardo and Ethyl Mertz for a ride around the car
show with the siren blasting and the light flashing while they hung out the
window like a couple of dogs yelling that they were innocent.
If anyone would have told me when I had to quit teaching because of medical
issues that I would have the kind of retirement I am having I would never
have believed them. Thank you TAGS and Thank you Mayberry.
