Ross,

I do not want this becomes too personal.
I was just meaning that I have applied the good tips you recommend from the
very beginning of our Web site, namely, use of Comic Sans MS, use of
stylesheets with font groups, and of course making sure that used fonts are
freely distributable.

However I am insisting on getting the answer to my questions, if possible:

1. Is there any useful alternative to late Bistream Web FontMaker tool for
Netscape users?
2. How does Opera handle the embedded fonts issue?
3. Same question about Netscape 6.

These are specific questions expecting to get specific answers.

Thanks in advance to everybody.

regardless of the visitors' browsers

I've joined this one late, but I honestly think that you'd be MUCH better
off if you drop the idea of pretty fonts matching your printed
documentation, because as you've seen you're gonna run into some serious
maintenance and compatibility issues - always be mindful of eye candy
superceding useability in terms of importance (i.e. never do something soley
because it looks good - I learned that the hard way).

Don't forget accessibility either - swanky fonts may look fine on your
development system, but may be a bitch to read on somebody else's (and this
applies to your printed documentation too - is this font readable for
everybody?).

Three suggestions therefore:

#1: Drop the swanky font and go for something accessible and available (i.e.
Verdana)
#2: Specify a CSS font-family to cover all your bases for preferred font and
a number of substitutes (e.g. font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Verdana, Arial,
Helvetica, sans-serif; is one I use quite a lot for headings)
#3: Find out about redistribution restrictions on the font you want to use
and post it available for download so users can install it and reap the
benefits of the font used on their site.
