> Flash, like css and images can be turned off by the user.
> Why would someone want to though?
> Is it because of the size?

yes, that is one (very valid) reason

granted, flash is relatively compact -- i would hate to see the size of an
equivalent animated gif, for instance

other reasons for turning off stuff:

- intense mistrust of microsoft technology e.g. unsigned activex

- bad experiences with java freezing the computer

- this carries over to plugins in general

- and the number 1 reason for turning off flash and other gizmos: they don't
assist the purpose of many sites (find information, buy something, book a
trip, etc.) and are merely "eye candy"

now, i hasten to add that i am not against eye candy

oh no

on the contrary, i think flash has magnificent potential for artistic and
entertainment purposes

for example, bum bum koala http://www.orisinal.com/games/koala.htm

i just love that game

maybe it's the music.....

<sigh />
