There's html and html. My ezine in html loads almost as fast as the text.
Where people (and there are many) try to send a complex web page as an html
mail it becomes the pain you describe.
It is a good idea to describe the likely experience, I agree with you there.
Strangely, I think every sign up to my newsletter for a very long time has
opted for html. Perhaps I'm just tapping into the leisurely market.
