One of the easiest ways to establish trust and build credibility, is to demonstrate - ie., "PROVE" - that you are THE expert in your subject.
Give away LOTS of information for free.
Even if it means you lose a little to start with.
When they see how much you know, and when they learn new stuff from you, credibility is the almost obvious lovechild in the equation.
And with credibility, immediately follows TRUST.
So, use as long a copy as you want (my home page is 100KB long. Only TWO small images. Of course, I've split the copy into multiple tables, so it loads pretty fast).
Write as much as you need to make sure you show the stuff you're made of.
Everything else will then follow automatically.
