This topic brings to mind something I've been wondering about... Web
programming.

So, for example, purely from a programming standpoint, how do the FFA
(Free For All) search engines accept and manage placements?

Meaning, what language do they use to manage that and how do they use
the language to create the listing?

I'm a programmer, but I've never really done any *web* programming
(other than futzing) and there are so many languages to pick from.

I can tell they're grabbing the submissions via CGI, but then what? Can
CGI manage the submission from start to finish? Could XML?
(Heeeeellllllppppp!!! <lol>)

I get to switch to .Net here soon, which looks like it's gonna kick a**
and take names later...

Anyone willing to educate a web programming neophyte?

Thanks kindly in advance,
Tracy

Hi Jac,

You do not have to pay to submit and just submitting to the search
engines does not guarantee where you will be placed.

So all this company that you received this spam from is doing is
charging you to submit the sites which you can do yourself. My advice,
submit to dmoz.org to get into the so called paid inclusion search
engines as a lot of them use the data form this project. Google also
uses the description form the DMOZ as the description in their data base
because it is human written by a third party not affiliated with the
site which tends to make the description more accurate, in their
opinion! Sometimes it is diametrically opposed to the real description.
:)

If you want to come up for any specific keyword phrase all the time and
on every page you can use Googles ad words.
https://adwords.google.com/select/

If you want to optimize your pages for any specific keyword phrases then
you need the assistance of a SE marketer.

Here are the first results for this site. www.bringyourbuyer.com

These are the keywords this client chose for this site that we developed

http://bringyourbuyer.com/stats/PageKey-16.htm

 Note the change column.

also note last position and the increase in positioning after we made
changes

the last position is after the first submission. Once we find out where
we stand then we optimize the site for the search engines.

click on the keywords to see the actual results.

Examples:

 this phrase

Greater Atlanta North Georgia Real Estate

was not in Excite the search engine and now it is #4 on the first page.
Verify this by clicking on the keyword phrase.

Remember that the GOOGLE search results are also
shown at America Online, CompuServe, Netscape,
Ask Jeeves, AT&T Worldnet, EarthLink and Excite

just go to google
http://www.google.com/addurl.html

As you can see we still have a lot of work to do for this particular
site. Just wanted to show you how the SEO starts.

The spam email...well, the first paragraph facts are true or were in
1998. You can always validate any internet facts at Gartner Research or
Jupiter media research. I gerneal if you are not on the first2-3 pages
of any search enigne you will not be visited. Plain and simple.

Regarding this sentence from the spam:

"A Top 20 position in one of the major search engines guarantees traffic
."

Of course it does but they are inferring this and not actually saying
they will get you the top 20 position as nobody can guarantee this.
Think about it. there are only 20 positions for every given keyword
combination. Now how many sites can occupy these 20 positions? 20 of
course, no more no less.
