Good luck getting rid of it, mySearch is a pig to remove. I think Ad-Aware works better on it than SpyBot
As for why it's happened and how it's done, almost certainly you clicked on something to agree to install it. Trouble is computer users are too literal minded. If a button says "Close" or "No thank you" it doesn't occur to them that's just a label put there by the program and what it really does could be... anything at all.
