Thanks Cheryl,
The pages do not use the navigation bots. The only FP specific features used are the forms bot to create the email for forms data. I have no plans to touch those pages.
The pages were created with FP 2000.
Thanks for the lead on contentseed. I am going to check that out--perhaps that is a better solution than creating a Frankenstein site!
As this site uses password protection on some pages, a javascript navigation system from a utility that I bought rather than created from scratch and the FP forms, I just afraid there are too many gotchas waiting for me!
As I only need to have the client maintain a few pages I was hoping I could recreate those in DW and replace the existing FP pages without upsetting anything. Does that sound reasonable or am I opening up Pandora's box here?
Thanks Janet

Subject: Re: [wdvltalk] Dreamweaver coexisitng with FrontPage
The answer is you can use both with caveats. I do all the time but then I know my way around both programs pretty well. There are certain files you cannot touch using FTP or you will corrupt the extensions. They are anything with a _vti prefix and the postinfo.html file.
Having said that there are a few other 'gotchas' depending on whether or not they are using any of the FP components or webbots (which are nothing more than calls to precompiled scripts on the web server installed as part of the FrontPage Server Extensions). If they are using the navigation bots you must be very careful. It also depends on what version of FP they are using FP2003 usually works well with Dreamweaver DWTs but not nested DWTs (it doesn't understand nested ones).
With FP I'd usually recommend using the Content Seed CMS (http://contentseed.com), much less expensive than Contribute and can work without FP as well.

Hello--
I have a site that was created with FrontPage. There are several pages I would like to convert to DreamWeaver so I the end client could use Contribute to update the content.
I have always been told that you cannot use FTP to publish pages to a FrontPage site as it will *break* the site. But I don't have any specific information on what exactly this will do. Is this really true? What happens with the FTP of a single page that will upset the FrontPage published pages?
I have read that you can migrate an entire site from FP to DW page by page, so there must be some way to do this. I have downloaded the migration tool from the Dreamweaver Exchange site, but there is a problem (the FrontPage upload option is not visible: I found many comments that this tool doesn't really work well). Does anyone have any experience with this situation.
This is a client site that I cannot put at risk They do not have a staging server; the files are all on my PC until I upload them to the live server.
I would like to move the entire site to DW but this will take some time to replace the FP functionality.
Any one have experience they could share with me?
