Why not just say 1/14th stone <grin>? Or if converting, why not convert
to something reasonable like Kilos?
We in the US should know all about holding onto archaic measurements.
What's the history/context here? If 'stone' is the what someone is used
to using, then that's what they will use. Or maybe they used it in
protest of, or to call attention to the silliness of maintaining US
measurements?

Gad, Ma'am, that's enough to bring on a an apoplexy attack.... splutter
....splutter .....empire ...those were the days.
Imperial / American / King's-Queen's Measure is about being human. The
measures come from practical use. The metric system is (as stated)
Napoleonic and idiotically based. Useful for science, but a dead hand in
daily life.
The stone is part of the English or Long ton of 2240 pounds (lbs) - 'lbs'
from 'libra' the latin for pound (yes and for scales or balance, which is
the astrological take on the sign).
1 ton = 20 cwt (hundredweight) -2240 lbs
1 cwt = 4 quarters -112 lbs
1 quarter = 2 stone -28 lbs
1 stone = 14 lbs
1 lb = 16 ounces
1 ounce = 16 drams (avoirdupois)
l lb = 7000 grains (avoirdupois)
14 grains = a pennyweight (Troy weight)
20 pennyweight = 1 ounce (Troy weight)
20 grain = 1 scruple (Apothecary)
3 scruples = 1 drachm (Apothecary)
8 drachms = 1 ounce (Apothecary)
I am sure the logic is clear ;-)
Next week Imperial paper measure, including the quire, the elephant the
folio, the grand eagle and the foolscap quarto. Sign up now for the
excitement of capacity measure (eg fluid drachms which ar *not* wee drams),
how to fathom fathoms and other neat ways to capture an audience.

PS for example coal used to be delivered in hundredweight sacks, which
was a manageable weight for a practiced operative. Potatoes often came in
stones and half stones (7 lbs).
