Especially since when would such a person keep up to date on changes
in any one of those fields.
Yet it seems like everyone is seeking just those people.
No, I think you really need separate roles. Rather than hire 2 or 3
who could do a little of all I think it would be better to hire a
team leader who could fill in where necessary and then hire those who
focus on each of the following.
Team Leader. Manage interaction with all below. Must be familiar
with all but master of ....perhaps past master of one or more.
Things are changing just too quick for anyone to remain a master
unless they focus.
Networking/Sysadmn. DNS, sendmail, hardware/software configurations
on a global scale.
Webmaster/Programmer. Manage the domain on the
computer dedicated to the web; configure the server; add
modules/programs to enhance the environment as needed. Work with
other programmers for large programming projects.
Designer/Artist. They do the design. It is an art. No doubt it can
be learned but talent certainly helps. A good looking website is ...
good.
Writer. Work with designers to develop content and display of
content on website.
