I just set up a Toshiba laptop for my non-techie girlfriend. The dial-up
software that's "built in" has a 'greyed out' "save Password" box. Nothing
I could figure out 'enabled' the save password feature.
So I wrote to seattle webgrrls asking about this
Well -- you HAVE to LOG IN TO WINDOWS 95 at startup in order for the bloody
machine to save your password for your dial up account. This is a
feature??? -- I mean, this is not a Networked Computer! This is a Dial Up
password! (I'll refrain from elaborating on how easy this is on my Mac).
Also -- auxilliary rant -- there were umpteen-dozen aliases on the desktop
-- ALL of them MS with the exception of Quicken (MS Money was there, too,
though). I couldn't drag MSN icon to the trash -- right clicked and
selected "delete" and was told "you can't store this file in the trash are
you sure you want to delete it"<!>.
Then today, I was working in Photoshop on the Win95 machine -- clicked on a
GIF off a CD-ROM -- and the damn machine launched some third-rate MS
program that I didn't even know existed on my machine. But it looked so
much like PS that I thought I was in Photoshop at first (you know, you
expect to be in a program and it takes a minute to figure out something
ain't right). I couldn't figure out why I couldn't change the RGB setting
or save as PSD file -- Then I got p-o'ed and called Boeing tech support to
lodge a complaint.
Argggghhhhh.
There. I feel better.
