I'm not into IE but I think what you want is onerrorupdate.
Possibly used as:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" FOR="your.trap" EVENT="onerrorupdate">
would give a popup... .onerrorupdate in place of onerror might give
the results you want, not sure.
