I heard this (as a rumor) but hadn't found any articles to back it up. I
know that I've typed "altavista.com" about a hundred zillion times myself,
so if you figure most folks won't bother to find out that it was really
"altavista.digital.com" that they wanted, these guys could be paying what
they see as a reasonable fee to get more traffic. It's that Portal game, ya
know.

BTW, "portals" seem to be the hot topic for all the obnoxious columnists
for July. I've been doing a bunch of reading tonight and every magazine
seems to have a column with a set of 3-10 steps on how to be a portal (such
as "get yourself a silly domain name like Snap, Crackle, or Pop.com"). 

Hey, is meep! still on the list? Buzzword Bingo would make a much better
portal than some dumb anti-virus company, or whoever that was that
announced portaldom last week.
