Forget vegitariarnism. Go look at http://www.mad-cow.org/ or my own

beef, pigs, and chickens may well kill a bunch of us.
But the essense was that becaue of our close relationship with germ
laden cattle, we evolved tougher immune systems than other natives, and so
it was our filthy bacteria laden carcases that did in the locals wherever
we went. Ancient Biological Warfare.
For once, the church's ban on bathing actually had some sensible
reasons, albeit after the fact. (Bath tubs were banned in New England at
one point. Another bit of ancient American history... That, along with
the note that when Electricity was used for illumination, they left the
electric generators running on Thursdays, so that the new fangled electric
irons could be used to iron clothing that day. Hence Prince Spaghetti Day
was Thursday, the day women were too beat to cook a "real" meal with beef
and such.)
