Tom, thanks, but I have to confess I"m deeply skeptical about the ability
of anyone to forecast future social changes. And I'm doubly suspicious of
anyone who writes a book about it and then wants me to pay for it :>) The
last few decades are littered with books that, looked back on now, are
laughably preposterous.
The book I was referring to, "Germs, Guns, and Steel", is about human
history, a somewhat safer area of study than the future <G>. Not to imply
that it is an _easy_ area of study: far from it. However this book offers
some penetrating insights into why certain cultures came to dominate over
other cultures. And the reasons are not what you might think...
and now we're waaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic! Something this list is famous for ;-)
