I for one pay little attention to who said what. I look at what was
said and if it was edited then I always grab a grain of salt.

What is an "originating site". That is a new one on me.

The referer log tells you what the browser tells you. The browser
can lie on purpose or not. It is supposed to give you the link that
led
them to your site.

I will assume that "your site" is the "originating site" in that it
is the first page they request from your site.

This leads me to page 78 of "Apache the definitive guide" from ORA. That
may very well be a way to track someone better than how webtrends does it.
I have not turned this feature on in Apache (that may be why some sites
seemed to inundate me with cookies before -- if they are sent for every
image request etc.).

I am assuming from what I have read of that page that if once the
person lands on my site he will keep the same cookie for every other
request. So if he fills out a form on mysite and gives me a name or email
I can then see every html file (or..) that he has requested. I might then
suggest he look at other sites. I can also do a lookup in the EXTENDED
log and see who referred him to my site (understanding that this may not
be exact and might escape perfection).
