Oh. Those. They belong in watches, not computers. I've never seen any that
last very long and most always replace them with the plug-in 4.5 volt
batteries. Life is much better afterwards.

A poor ground would actually have the opposite effect - it wouldn't let the
juice flow out of the battery, which may still be fully charged. A decent
Volt-Ohm Meter (VOHM) will tell you that.
