I can't help you as my knowledge of linux or unix is not that deep.

But I can say this about RH linux (or any other linux for that 
matter).

I had to change the umask on the ftp server.  I looked in the books 
(ORA running linux and power tools plus some others).  Nope, couldn't 
find it. I did a search on dejanews -- and wouldn't you know within 
20 minutes I nailed down the answer.

And then I had to set the system time. Again the books didn't help do 
exactly what I needed.  Off to dejanews I went; search the 
newsgroups.  BTW, the books told me to look at man page 8 for clock. 
Neither my linux box or a dec unix box or a bsd box had a man 8 page 
for clock. But, but ... someone had it on a website. And it was just 
what I needed.

There are a lot of q&a's for linux on the internet.  Very powerful in 
my opinion.
