Came across a truly intriguing site today, called "Metaspy". It's a feature
at the metacrawler.com site, and every 15 seconds displays a
(supposedly) random sampling of strings that users currently online are
searching for:
http://www.metaspy.com/
I just spent about half an hour watching these screens flash by, and a
few trends were immediately evident:
(1) there are a lot of people out there searching for "warez, crackz,
serialz" and whatnot
(2) very few users employ Boolean searches, exact matches "in quotes",
or other power search methods
(3) people misspell a fair number of words; might not be a bad idea to
include common misspellings of keywords in your meta tags as a result, it
occurs to me
(4) a majority of searches appear to be "legitimate" queries for technical,
travel, health and related general-interest subject information, with the
balance being more oddball stuff -- porn, crackz, and so on.
Here's a couple of screens I captured at random from the site:
- kiss adult dolls junk pile
- "total number of errors"
- logic games
- bulletin boards to advertise crafts
- Mercury Merkur Prices
- yahoo
- satyr hermaphrodite
- Arlington Board of Realators
- amateurs+teens+free pics
- Power supply application notes
- stress management techniques
- washington nissan dealership
- "cable descrambler" AND "warez"
- porn in israel
- multiuser server configuration
- loni anderson photos
