Thanks everyone for your helpful input. Matthew's comments about using the
Web to dessiminate info quickly are the kind of things that are helpful.
What I'm trying to do is write an article for a self-promotion newsletter
for prospective local Web design clients. The gist of it is, "well, you may
not get rich by having a Web site. A few types of businesses (i.e.
specialty items like antique guns or Dave's jewelry) are ideal. But there
are other benefits, such as being able to rapidly dessiminate information,
etc."
One example I used was when Endless River Adventures, a *very* small
business, suddenly and unexpectedly ran out of their expensive 4 color
kayak instruction brochures in early August, too late in the kayaking
season to justify the hefty expense of reprinting. They soon realized that
most of their audience has Web access, since kayaking is expecially
attractive to doctors, lawyers, and engineers. So, for the rest of this
season they are simply referring callers to their Web site, and being able
to do so saved them a couple of thousand dollars in printing.
