I've used my laptop on San Francisco <> New York flights, as have many
others on the plane(s). The flight attendants announce that they may not be
used during takeoff and landing, but otherwise it's free reign (except when
the delicious snacks come - then I put it away so I don't spill my teaspoon
of orange juice on the keyboard).
