President Clinton's job performance rating went up six percentage points,
according to a Gallup poll released Tuesday, confounding critics who felt
his televised testimony would hurt his public standing.

A Gallup poll conducted for CNN and USA Today showed that 66 percent of
respondents still approved of the job Clinton is doing, six points higher
than the figure Sunday, the day before the broadcast. The approval figure on
the previous Sunday was 64 percent.

The ABC News poll showed that 70 percent believed Clinton was right to
refuse to talk about the sexual details of his relationship with Lewinsky
and 59 percent thought prosecutors were wrong to ask detailed, probing,
explicit questions.
