Well OK, we weren't actually speaking of loonies, but I did want to pass on
some nonsense I stumbled upon today while looking for something else
entirely. This is a site run by one of those pernicuous "telephone
psychics", and features her predictions from years past; amusing reading
to say the least. Or put it this way: I didn't know being a pyschic was so
easy! The trick seems to be what we'll call "hedging your bets" (what
literally does that mean, anyway?)... here are a few gems from the great
clairvoyant herself, Da Juana Boyd (for 1997):

The Ukraine
A new medical facility or program will come into being in the
fourth or fifth month of the year.

Japan
People of Japan will be angry about a wrong they consider done
to them by either the US or their own government.

Europe
I hear mothers crying. This feels as if it is in England and
could happen in four to eight months.

United States
I see gunman in an area with many people around where either
large amounts of money are or what it takes to make the money
is. This could be on the east coast or inland.

Movies
A new male star is on the horizon with sultry good looks.

... and so on, ad dreary bloody infinitum.

I think I may be in the wrong line of work... lemesee. Howzabout a few
fearless predictions in the same lame vein from the Mysterious Monsieur
Brentano, Web Sage and Wunderkind? :)

*Browsers*
I see more people using browsers, possibly while surfing the Web. A tall
geeky blond man with much money is involved.

*Java applets*
Applets will cause many computers to crash, or maybe just freeze for a
moment. I see this happening in Asia or India. Or possibly Schenectady.

*Windows NT*
I hear the plaintive moans of thousands of unhappy IIS customers. But
still people will buy it. The tall geeky guy is involved again.

*E-commerce*
Some businesses will make money on the Web. But not others. This may
involve books. Or it may not. No word on the tall geeky guy.

Anyone else care to pick up the torch here? :)
