1.  Start a company
2.  Hire marketing people.
3.  Hire web people.
4.  Locate marketing people in upper reaches of arctic circle, deny them
telephones and computers, give them only trade press to read
5.  Locate web people in center of net activity, have them flurry about
making a lot of noise and looking busy
6.  Allow marketing people a fax machine to send out their impressions
of the world, based on what they read in the trade press about their own
web team making noise
7.  If marketing has questions, allow them to ask only the president of
the company
8.  And, of course, once stock goes over $70, sell everything, and
everyone join marketing team in hiding

Somewhere in there you create a web site with "traffic magnets" to
inflate visitor counts, and then conveniently forget to differentiate
between useful and casual visitors  :)
