I've noticed some strange things about W98.
1) Even if you ask IE to clear the cache... well it doesn't... you find
there a lot of unopenable files... W98 prevent you to open them...
try to go to SystemDIR/Temporary Internet Files
You can kill them going into Internet Options->General->Temporary
Internet Files->Setup->View (sorry I've got the italian version,
translations may be inaccurate/not equal). Then try to open the
files???
2) I know I continue to rewrite this but...
I have a 2 PC LAN an NT Workstation running a proxy and PWS
and a W98 box.
I was trying to call machine by name and not by IP...
I've played with TCP/IP setup on both machine... WINS, DNS etc...
I've used LMHOST on the NT machine and now my NT machine
see the W98 by name
There is a LMHOST file on the W98 box but I don't know how to
use it... I've filled it with the correct info but I don't know if W98 is
using it... infact I can't use names inspite of IP on my W98
machine... I can't ping my NT machine by name from my W98 box
while I can ping my W98 machine by name from my NT
I cant browse my microweb on the NT from NS 4 if I use the NT
name while I succeed if I use IP

>>>> BUT <<<<

well W98 IE see the NT machine by name ????
It is SLOW and sometimes it don't reach it but it works
No cache involved... I've killed evry thing... and I can see the HD
access on the NT machine when I'm loading new pages and no HD
access if the pages hve been previously loaded (cached)

both browsers have been configured to not use the proxy if they are
accessing things on the LAN

??????

Any explanation????

Does anybody know how to use LMHOST on W98???

TIA
