This is extremely accurate. Listserv and listproc still carry
a ton of baggage dating from the mainframe & BITNET era, much
of which gets in the way.
For example, listserv compels you to subscribe like this:
subscribe foo-list firstname lastname
instead of like this:
subscribe foo-list [EMAIL PROTECTED]
This is extremely bogus, to say the least.
Also, consider that majordomo is now undergoing a massive rewrite,
based on many years of experience with it. I think it's already
head-and-shoulders above the competition; once the rewrite is done,
I doubt that it'll even be worth considering anything else.
Yes, majordomo does have a learning curve associated with it.
But these run-'em-for-you sites don't really solve your problems
either -- in fact, some of them are in violation of some of the
RFCs that stipulate how mailing lists are to work!
If worse comes to worse, find some bright undergrad student,
pay 'em part-time wages, and get them to run it. They get the
experience and a resume entry, you contribute to the community, and get
the mailing list run *correctly* (assuming it's a *bright* undergrad)
by someone with a vested interest in making it work for you.
