That was about what I was getting. I thought it was either my
machine or my ISP, so I started trying to ping various landmarks, like
www.att.com, www.altavista.digital.com, etc. Some were there, others were
not. Even though altavista responded to pings, it would not serve until
somewhat later in the morning. Best.Com replied they were having
networking problems, but when I asked the nightowl contingent from the
Silicon Valley User's group, some replied that there were problems in the
network, including UC Berkely not being on the net.
"Internet Storms", "Internet Weather"... turbulence ringing on the
net...
