Dewey decimal system:

1.  Start out with two numbers (100 and 200) assigned to two
items you want to classify.
2.  Add a third item in between those two -- give it a number
exactly in the middle - 150.
3.  Add another number between the first and second - 125
4.  Between the second and third - 135.5

You determine how many decimal places to carry it (don't worry about Y2K ;-}.)
