Yeah, I did that for an elderly couple here in town whose daughter lives
out in Calgary... she e-mailed me via my Almonte site, and asked if I could
pleeeaase give her dad a call (given that I'm allegedly the "local computer
and internet guru", harumph smirk <g>), to see if I could help him get his
new PC online.
Turned out to be pretty straightforward -- a minor glitch in his Dial-Up
Adapter set-up -- and I was able to fix it in moments. In return I've made
a new and very grateful friend, who calls me periodically with questions
about the net. Eighty-three years old, but still witty and entertaining.
As for Suz's original query: I'm surprised that the ISP her dad contacted
insists that he must have Win95... I thought most providers offered shell
accounts? In which case any old $200 DOS/Apple box should do... n'est-
ce pas?
