Heh... yeah, that's us all right.  

One of the first things a Canadian student of politics learns is that in the 
constitutional realm, you 'Murricans expect your government to stay out 
of your way as you seek "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" -- 
whereas we Canadians ask (politely, of course) that our leaders bring us 
only "peace, order and good government".

That's quite a contrast in political mores for two nations otherwise so 
similar in many ways; a fairly conservative Canadian is still more tolerant 
of government intervention in his life than the most liberal of Americans, 
by and large.  We just accept the need -- in our huge but very thinly 
populated nation -- for a large degree of government regulation to (quite 
literally) keep the trains running.  Among other things.

Anyway... when the Y2K bug leads to anarchy in the streets down south, 
WC members are welcome to come and stay in my peaceful and orderly  
basement til the fires burn down <g>
