Roughly speaking schlemiel is a jokingly derogatory word, in harshness
between schleper and putz. Schmuck is probably the harshest of all of
these workds, although I'm sure people would debate this.
Schlemiel, putz, schmuck are all words meaning roughly moron, fool,
idiot, etc.
Schlep as you guessed is to "go around" or "go to". Instead of saying "I
went to the grocery store", we tend to say, "I schlepped all the way to
the grocery store. oy."
