I went to college at FIT in the Garment District of NYC. There, schlep was
also used in the sense of "to haul" when referring to the guys who pushed
racks of clothing around the sidewalks and side streets of the
neighborhood: schlepping dresses around.

btw, for a charming look inside Brooklyn's Hasidic community, see 'A Price
Above Movies.' We especially enjoyed this since my husbands avocation is
jewelry design.
