Linux can be obtained for free, or for $49.95. Red Hat, Caldera,
Turbo Linux, SuSE all have versions for sale. The web server Apache is
included. It is UNIX based, which gives you a lot more power to build
things. And, it will run for weeks, even months without crashing if run
on stable hardware. I favor Red Had, but get 5.2, not the old 5.1! I am
running SuSE, Red Hat 5.0, and Turbo Linux 2.0 on several different
machines.

On my Windows95 notebook, I have once again lost my PCMCIA devices.
Since I need the CD-ROM to re-install them, and since my CD-ROM is mounted
via PCMCIA SCSI... I have to re-install Windows yet again... and after
that, once again spend an hour with tech support to re-install my PCMCIA
modem/LAN card... My TIME is worth more than the old hardware!

For me, given all the problems I have had with Windows, and the
difficulty of programming under it, Linux is the only reasonable choice
regardless of price! Linux just Runs... Forever!

In terms of your TIME, Linux is the best bargain in the computer
field. The sooner you learn the power of UNIX based systems, the sooner
you will agree that windows is just a toy.
