When I was living in Singapore from 1994-97, there was an issue with the
govt.-imposed proxy servers and the way one ISP was pre-configuring
Netscape that they gave to their customers. If you had, for example, a .sg
domain hosted outside Singapore (which anyone with a brain preferred since
it was a third the cost), that ISPs customers couldn't access it unless
they changed a browser setting that almost none of them knew about. So
effectively, the site was invisible to them. For this reason (among
others), I never registered a .sg domain for my clients.

This was a source of signficant controversy within the Internet community,
which I won't go into here. But it meant that it was foolish to register a
.sg domain and host it somewhere else.

This is just one example of an under-the-surface problem that you have to
watch out for.
