It is.
My dogs got it worse than me (which is only fitting I suppose, in that they
cornered and provoked the rotten creature in the first place), because
they were closer to ground zero and got more in their eyes. Streamed for
days, poor beasties. And it took months to get the reek out of their
coats...
I got some in the eyes and inhaled a fair bit, and it was very much like
ammonia in its acrid intensity -- vile indeed. And painful. I don't
recommend the experience.
As an aside, plain white toothpaste such as Colgate -- used like soap to
produce a rich lather -- works much better than tomato juice at
diminishing the odour. Learned that at the time from my vet.
