Interesting.  I have a similar networking environment here in my small 
town, thanks to a federal gov't program that uses our county as a sort of 
test-bed for trying out leading-edge telecomm technologies.

While it doesn't pay any dividends for me personally as an end-user -- I 
use the same ol' dial-up as anyone else -- our libraries, hospitals, 
municipal councils and whatnot are soon going to be wired like nowhere 
else in the country.  All on the taxpayer's dime <g>

More power to Ashland for making the investment in a networked future 
directly -- sounds a little risky, to read the C|Net piece, but no doubt in a 
few years everyone will be clammering to claim they thought of it first.
