Brandon,
First, look in your backyard at what iserver.com offers. They are
also in Utah.
Now, there are 10 million people who will host WEAK sites. Even
resellers at iserver can host other sites (IP less hosting). A local
guy will put my computer on his network (I can't get him to give me
any stats or anything -- the guy is just reselling) for US$100 a
month. Wow! but I have no confidence in it as you can imagine.
What is really needed is for someone to sell co-location so that the
co-location customer can then offer virtual domains just like iserver
(perhaps not as sophisticated) or anyone else. BUT, BUT I will bet
that most of your customers would not get into reselling. They want
a place where they can install the software they want(like using
AOLserver or Oracle or Mysql or Sendmail or Qmail) etc. etc. They
want a place where they are truly root.
BUT, but, these people (myself here) are not system administrators or
network engineers -- perhaps we are webmasters. I am looking for
such a place that will have the automated systems and online docs
that iserver.com excels at. This place must try to place as much
online help as possible to avoid the need for US$200 an hour help
calls (or try to limit them). Something along these lines, I think,
will have promise in the market.
