If you want to run CF as a server module and not as a CGI, the docs (came
with CF Server Pro) I have say that you need to use a web server that
supports NSAPI, ISAPI or WSAPI on NT or, on Solaris, Apache 1.2/.3 or NS
Fastrack/enterprise v2.01, 3.0 or 3.51.

On a Solaris box, but for now, I think that's it. Allaire is working on an
HPUX and Linux native version.

Yes, but CF must be running in one of the environments listed above.
However, it *can* communicate with a DB on another type machine if there is
an ODBC driver for it.

http://www.chilisoft.com/ has a product line that allows you to use ASP on
other platforms and with other servers. See their site for details.

Maybe not more flexible. Could be that the "programmatic" environment you
can use for ASP gives you more options, albeit it may take more development
time. CF allows you to write custom tags in other languages, as well, so
they may be head-to-head on flexibility, but not in ease of use.

Depends on what the developer is already comfortable with. A VB coder would
adapt quickly.

I have seen a number of head-to-head evaluations that also select CF over
ASP. Of course, you the results of the surveys are only as good as the
criteria used in the survey.

Yes, I think you're right on that, too. O'Reilly Web Site pro also tops
MSIIS (but costs, oh, a grand). The NT version of Apache, last I heard from
a sysop (around 2 months ago) is not as stable as the *nix version.
