You don't have to use Submit-it or any of the search engine submittal
tools or programs. You can go to the top search engines yourself and
fill out the form to add your site to their directory. Apart from meta
tags, make sure that you have a <title> and that the content on your page
is a) relevant and b) can be read by a text browser. The robots are
essentially "text" browsers and will see text in image 'alt' but will not
see the image itself.
