It might be a bit off topic, but I thought a number
of you might find the following interesting.

A few months back, my nine year old son was tasked
by his fourth grade teacher to complete a report on
two endangered species. His choices the American
Perigrene Falcon and Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, we set
off to the local public library in search of information
that would help him complete the task. Unfortunately, we
found very little information regarding the two species
at the library, and the few books we did find in the card
catalog were already checked out. So I said to the lad,
"why not use the web?"

Well, it turned out we found more than enough information
via the web, even a .wav birdcall or two (which we copied to
floppy and put in his report). His teacher was so impressed
with his work that he was awarded an A++, apparently also
the first time his teacher had ever awarded anyone such a
grade.

The boy was beaming when he told me of it...

(naturally, I helped him format the whole thing in Word 97--
he did do the typing though).

Just thought a number of you might appreciate just how
versatile the web has really become, and just how important
it may be for present and future youngin's to know how to use
it correctly and efficiently.
