If you have to have one or the other, take NT workstation. 98 isn't all
that great. Fixes 95 bugs and annoyances. The active desktop is (to
most hardcore users) utterly worthless, and takes a solid 2 hours of
work to effectively turn off :P

I also find my copy of 98 slower on the Internet than my original copy
of win95 (bought in first month). The 95 is an original A copy that is
buggy as hell, but there's something about the modem connections in that
that makes it faster than all my other connections using the same
equipment. 98 is slower than both win95 boxes (and way slower than the
Alpha :) -- and that's using a faster modem.

NT also has much less of a memory problem. if you're running web design
tools, a browser, photoshop, FTP and a host of other applications, 95/98
is gonna choke every 24 hours or so of uptime. With NT Workstation,
I've seen the system actually go three days before you have to reboot to
clear memory <G>

Half-life will run much faster in NT, too . . . especially since it will
accomodate a second CPU <G>
