I know very little about it, I don't use Maven, and only know what was
required in order to successfully build WOLips after the apple plugin
was recently checked in.
Daryl Lee is the contributor responsible for the plugin, all I know is
that it builds with the codehaus version of the plugin, but doesn't
with the sonatype one. Which would appear to confirm your fears
unfortunately.
