Agreed, but there are always ways to mask dilution/confusion... Maybe we should have a single top level such as www.opensolarisportal.com (or even www.solarisportal.com) which has a simple homepage giving the viewer the option of going to whichever "flavour" of OpenSolaris they are interested in; whether it be building from source (the true OpenSolaris), Indiana (the Sun official OpenSolaris version), the other "flavours" of distro based on OpenSolaris, or whatever else comes along. > - I think the whole emphasis is wrong. Surely it should be solaris.com? > It can't be. Sun already owns this, and there is still a marked difference between OpenSolaris and Solaris at the moment; ie. the latter is a commercial product, the former not. Plus you shouldn't really associate OpenSolaris with a .com suffix > - The last 4 years has convinced me that what really adds value is to > bring all the members of the community together, so segmenting > different classes of members into little ghettos is a negative step > I like the concept of "OpenSolariz n the Hood" ;-) (OK, cheap ghetto joke - apols). Certainly segregation is negative de facto, but again, if it is "hidden" well enough... > - Many members will be on both, doubling the effort required to be > involved. > > We should be combining, not fragmenting. > Yup; but often easier said than done.
