It isn't as if the less than brilliant nature of the current search engine is news, I wrote about it in June of last year [1]. Search is definitely on the list of things to fix, but until we have the content management infrastructure of the site sorted it seems a little premature to be be focusing on search. As I said, please feel free to log a bug, improving search is most certainly high on the list of stuff to do, but it isn't the highest priority item. And I don't believe that one individual's preference for a particular search engine is sufficient reason for putting it on the site homepage, sorry.
