In section 2.1 you give the location of the configuration file as

/etc/mysql/my.cnf

whereas everywhere else you put it in /etc/mysql/5.1/my.cnf

Also, is a my.cnf shipped, and what does it contain?

(I'm not entirely sure that I would expect my.cnf to be versioned. Are there
significant differences between versions that would make having different files
a good thing? It would certainly be easier for users upgrading if it
wasn't versioned
so that the new mysql version picked up local customizations without any
additional work being required.)
